This summer has been all about the sea!
Visits to the beach recharge my creativity. I feel like I can absorb the energy of the ocean, the light, and the atmosphere. That energy has been guiding my painting practice all summer.
Although most of my painting takes place in my studio, I do enjoy plein air painting at the beach from time to time. This photo is from a visit to Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts last week. Although the day was mostly overcast and hazy, I used that as an opportunity to study atmosphere and water movement.
In the studio, I've been exploring different seascape color palettes with my works on paper, allowing my imagination to run free! It's been so much fun playing with wild combinations of color, texture, and mood.
Allowing the energy of the day to be my guide, I'm painting from a place that feels authentic to me, like speaking my truth. I've started working on a series of 8"x8" seascapes, inspired by all of these different moods - some are soothing, some are stormy. I'll be making these available and adding them to my online shop as I complete them.
